Silver-gilt cup by Thomas Heming, 1759,
now in the Royal Ontario Museum

A George II silver-gilt cup
London, 1753, mark of Thomas Heming

This important cup is the mate to one in the Victoria and Albert Museum. The handles, which were designed by the English engraver George Vertue (1684-1756) and probably modelled by the sculptor John Michael Rysbrack (1693-1770), are similar to those on the massive Jernegan wine cistern in the Hermitage, St Petersburg. The cup was acquired by the Royal Ontario Museum.
